POSSIBLE DIAGNOSIS:

a. No power going to Evaporative cooler. Ensure circuit breaker is ON, cooler plugged in and 240V present at power point. If the circuit breaker was tripped, reset it. If does trip again, leave it off. Problem might be related to a short circuit within the unit.

b. No power within the cooler. Ensure Isolating switch is ON, check main control board, LED light should should be ON. If it is not, then the problem could be the fuse, loose wiring, transformer or main control board.

c. Thermostat malfunction or misuse. Check all settings are correct, use MANUAL mode with PUMP ON. If it is a remote control - check batteries or re-establish communication with receiver.

d. No water supply. Check the shut off valve is ON. If cooler not filling or not holding water, then the problem could be an inlet solenoid, float valve, drain valve or main control board.

e. Fan motor problem. Check if the fan blade is still attached to the motor and bearings are spinning freely. Also capacitor, fan motor or main control board could be the issue.

For some older models or entry level evaporative air conditioners "bleed-off" a small measure of water while operating is normal. This is to prevent a build up of mineral deposits in the system. Also modern and high end model coolers are fitted with an automatic drain vale system which will discharge water at the end of cooling cycle. However, if water leak is significant or it's outside of operating cycle - might be there is a problem.

a. Water overflows. Check if water level setting is correct. Float valve, inlet solenoid, drain valve, water sensor or main control board can also be faulty.

b. Filter pads are damaged or misaligned. Re-align or replace pads.

c. Loose or worn out fittings and seals. Visually inspect for any damage to external or internal components. *** Subject to a licensed work only.

POSSIBLE DIAGNOSIS:

a. The batteries are flat. Some Evap cooler models have a Remote control which require a batteries. Try to replace batteries with a fresh set. Do not forget to re-establish signal with receiver.

b. The circuit breaker has tripped or unit unplugged. Most of Controllers are getting power from the unit, If the circuit breaker trips, it may shut off the power to your cooler and screen will go blank. Check and reset circuit breaker in electrical box. But, do not repeat if the breaker trips again.

c. Blown fuse. Cooling unit has built-in fuse, when it's blown, the transformer will stop supplying voltage to the cooler's components. Replacing a fuse might help to restore power to the cooler and controller.

d. Loose Connections or Wiring Problems. Visually check wiring or connections for damage or oxidation. Also main control board could be faulty.

e. Faulty wall control. If all else fails, your wall control might need to be replaced. The average device has a life expectancy of around 15-20 years.

a. If something has interrupted the cooler’s operation and Error message appears on the screen, write it down. This code contains information that will help Technician to deal with the issue that requires attention.

b. Refer to error codes in your owner's manual. Try to reset the Error by turning OFF the power supply to the unit at the power point located adjacent to the heater or press RESET button. This may reset the cooler and restore it back to normal operation.

c. If the cooler does not resume normal operation or the error message re-appears, It's an indication the cooler is not operating due to a dirty sensors, low water level or malfunction of electric or electronic components.

Ductwork is damaged or leaking air. Try access the ceiling space and inspect all the ducts while the system is on,perform a visual inspection and check if any duct has come loose or out of original shape.

Whistling, humming, rumbling, squeaking noises and rattles aren’t normal. The sounds may indicate a mechanical problem or an airflow reductions.

a. Whistling noise - usually indicating that it is not enough doors and windows have been opened.

b. Squealing or Grinding sounds - may indicate issue with the fan motor, fan blade or a water pump.

c. Continuous humming noise - could be coming from a faulty electric damper motor or a fan motor.

A burning smell coming from a cooling system can be just the smell of the new filter pads and should dissipate after a second cycle. However electrical, plastic or a strong rubber burning smell while cooler is ON is an obvious sign of serious electrical issue related to the fan motor, main control board or a capacitor.

As a safety switch is designed to shield people from an electric shock, if it has tripped that usually means there is a leaking current or a short circuit within a faulty appliance.

It may be a quick and easy fix just by switching your safety switch back to ‘ON’. If you try this, and it flips back to ‘OFF’ instantly, then there is a solid reason to why it did happened, including :

a. Damaged wiring, fan motor or other electrical components within an evap cooler

b. If happens after heavy rainfall, could be an external power point is getting wet

Evaporative cooling unit is an air handling appliance with the sump containing over 12L of water when it's running. Water may enter into the roof space via the following options:

a. If filter pads are clogged with mud or damaged, the fan motor potentially can draw in a water droplets into the ductwork and over electric components. Wash or replace filters if necessary.

b. Water lines and fittings inside the cooler could get damaged and start pumping water into the ductwork. Check and replace if required.

c. Flashing around dropper is box damaged or not sealed. Inspect for holes and cracks, re-seal or replace if non repairable.

d. Water can leak through the roof tiles gaps when drain valve is dumping water. Missing or poorly installed drain pipe on coolers drain outlet. Always run pipe into the gutter.
