Brivis Evaporative Cooler Leaking Water

We recently attended a property in Kings Park where a Brivis evaporative cooler was continuously overflowing with water and at the same time, the fan motor was not starting. No airflow from the vents, just water leaking when it should not be. This type of issue often requires a full evaporative cooling service to identify the root cause.

What Could Cause This on a Brivis Unit

What We Found

Realistically speaking, when we calculated the cost of replacing the damper motor, installing new filter pads, plus labour to remove and refit aging components, the total repair cost would land around 40 to 50 percent of a brand new cooler.

At that point, replacement becomes a serious consideration.

Repair or Replace

A brand new unit would definitely provide more peace of mind, five years warranty, improved performance, better efficiency and reliability.

But that is also a thousands of dollars decision, and the homeowner simply was not in a position to commit to that right away.

So instead of pushing for replacement, we looked for a practical compromise.

The Compromise Solution

Here is what we did:

• Excluded the faulty damper motor from operation
• Thoroughly washed the clogged filter pads to remove restriction and improve airflow

What does excluding the damper motor mean. It simply means the unit will now require annual cleaning and servicing, rather than stretching maintenance intervals out to two to three years like the original setup allowed.

Is it a forever solution. No.

Is a brand new cooler the better long term option. Absolutely.

But what we achieved was something important. We extended the life of this old and tired unit, giving the homeowner breathing space to plan and budget properly, without the pressure of an urgent breakdown in the middle of summer. A proper evaporative cooling service can often deliver this kind of outcome when handled correctly.
